Pittsburgh Philharmonic holding contests

Applications are available online for young full-time residents of Allegheny and surrounding counties for two contests sponsored by the Pittsburgh Philharmonic
They are:
• Young Artist Concerto Competition – The winner will perform with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic at the orchestra’s March 2015 concerts. Applicants will audition by performing on harp, strings, brass or woodwinds.
• Philharmonic’s Young Composer Competition – Applicant must submit a score, a first violin part, an audio rendering of their work and a completed application per specifications outlined in the rules and regulations. There also is a $25 application fee. The winner score will be performed by the Philharmonic at its March concert.
Finalists for both contests will be selected by mid-January, and all finalists will be notified. Final judging will end in mid-February, and a winner for each contest will be selected. Scholarships will be awarded to the winners.
Applicants for both contests must be younger than 21 as of March 22, 2015. Applications are available at www.pghphil.org.
