Stage show planned about Dr. Kevorkian
DETROIT (AP) – A producer said a stage show is in the works about assisted-suicide advocate Dr. Jack Kevorkian.
Steve Jones, CEO of Bee Holder Productions, said the tentatively titled “Dr. Death: Jack of All Trades” will look at Kevorkian’s art, music and writings. Jones was a producer for “You Don’t Know Jack,” a 2010 HBO movie about Kevorkian.
Kevorkian died in 2011 in suburban Detroit at age 83. He sparked the national right-to-die debate with a homemade suicide machine that helped end the lives of about 130 ailing people.
Meanwhile, Jones said a TV miniseries is planned about the late automotive innovator John Z. DeLorean that’s to be partially filmed in Detroit.
Jones hopes the projects will be finished by late 2016 or early 2017.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – A college in Pennsylvania has rescinded an honorary degree it awarded to comedian Bill Cosby.
Swarthmore College joins a growing number of schools distancing themselves from the entertainer amid sexual assault allegations.
The school’s board voted Saturday to rescind the degree he was given in 1995. The college announced the decision to the school community Monday.
Dozens of women have accused Cosby of molesting them decades ago. He has denied the allegations and has not been charged with a crime.
Swarthmore College President Valerie Smith said in a statement that Cosby’s “admitted personal behaviors” are inconsistent with the school’s values.
In a deposition released earlier this year, Cosby acknowledged using Quaaludes during consensual sexual encounters.
