DETROIT (AP) – General Motors officials met with the leader of a Detroit activist group that wants the automaker to cut financial ties with Kid Rock over the musician’s use of the Confederate flag.

GM spokesman Patrick Morrissey told the Associated Press in an email “a very constructive conversation” was held Thursday with the Rev. Charles Williams II. Williams, calling it “encouraging.”

Morrissey reiterated GM will continue sponsoring Kid Rock’s summer concert series.

Williams and the National Action Network have protested the flag display during performances.

Kid Rock’s publicist told the Detroit Free Press the rocker last used the flag on tour more than five years ago. Last week, Kid Rock emphatically dismissed critics’ concerns.

Williams is concerned Rock still appears with the flag on social media.
