SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — A 2-year-old Mountain Shepherd has been reunited with his former owner nearly three months and about 1,500 miles after the two parted ways.

Sarge’s odyssey started in mid-December when Jennie Shackleford moved to Sheridan, leaving the dog with her husband, who moved to Ohio.

Shackleford says the dog ended up being shuttled from one new owner to another in Ohio before ending up by himself at a post office in Lakemore, Ohio.

Laura Lawson, a volunteer with a pet lost and found group, was able to track down Shackleford thanks to Sarge’s microchip.

Lawson’s husband, Ron, is a truck driver, and he drove with dog to Sheridan on the way to a delivery in Las Vegas.

The truck and the dog arrived on Wednesday, and Sarge was reunited with Shackleford.
