The Daffodil and Hosta Society of Western Pennsylvania will hold its annual Daffodil Show from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 18 at the Shady Side Academy Senior School ice rink in Fox Chapel.

The show is approved by the American Daffodil Society and is being held in conjunction with the Penn State Extension of Allegheny County Garden and Landscape Symposium and Marketplace, which features the Penn State Master Gardeners’ plant sale and exclusive vendors.

Anyone who grows daffodils is invited to enter blooms in the show. Exhibitors can groom and enter flowers from 3 to 10 p.m. April 17 and 6 to 8 a.m. April 18.

Those who have never shown flowers don’t need to worry. There will be gardeners available to show novices how it’s done.

For experienced exhibitors, there are several sections and classes in which to enter blooms. There also is a “Small Growers Section” for those who grow 50 or fewer cultivars, pluse an “Amateur Section” for first-time exhibitors where daffodils whose names are not known can be entered.

For something new, participants can arrange flowers – with at least two daffodils – in the “Design Section,” or enter photographs in the “Photography Section.” Winners in each will be determined by popular vote.

There will be knowledgeable judges and growers to identify blooms or answer daffodil questions. Literature also will be available.

For more information on the show, daffodils or DHSWP, email Stephen Plato, daffodil vice president, at sjplato46@gmail.com.

Admission is free.
