Cal students to perform in holiday concerts

California University of Pennsylvania’s singers and musicians will be featured in several holiday performances. Unless otherwise noted, admission is free.

Music on campus includes:

Nov. 19 – Cal U. jazz ensemble’s annual fall concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Room 222, Morgan Hall.

The repertoire includes “Come Fly with Me” by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn; “A Night in Tunisia” by Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli; “Sway” by Norman Gimbel; and “Mueva los Huesos” by Gordon Goodwin. Featured soloists include David Kiss and Mia Zazac.

Nov. 22 – University choirs and orchestra’s annual holiday concert will begin at 3 p.m. in Morgan Hall auditorium. A string ensemble will join choir members for a rendition of Gustav Holst’s “Christmas Day,” a three-carol arrangement for orchestra and choir.

In addition, musicians will perform their interpretation of Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s style, and there will be a sing-along of holiday carols.

Off-campus performances include:

Dec. 5 – “Magic and Mistletoe” will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fayette County Courthouse, 61 E. Main St., Uniontown. Two Cal U. jazz combos will perform at the seventh annual holiday fundraiser organized by the Fayette County Community Action Agency. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Children 6 to 12 years old are $10, and children 5 and younger are free.

Dec. 5 and 6 – “Ho Ho Ho with the WSO” will begin at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at Trinity High School. The California Singers will join the Washington Symphony Orchestra and the Washington County High School All-Star Choir for a holiday-themed performance.
