‘Go Red’
While heart disease is both preventable and controllable, it remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.
The three hospitals in Washington County will again team up during National Heart Month for a countywide education and awareness effort for women and men called “Go Red, Washington County.”
Programs will be held as follows:
Events will be held Feb. 16 at the Center for Fitness and Health in the Mon-Vale HealthPLEX, 800 Plaza Drive, Suite 100, WillowPointe Plaza, Belle Vernon.
• Noon to 3 p.m. – Free blood pressure screenings and stroke risk assessments.
• 1 to 3 p.m. – Simultaneous, hourlong fitness and cooking demonstrations.
The hospital also will provide healthy refreshments, and there will be giveaways and a raffle. Seating is limited, and reservations are required by calling 724-258-1333.
Events will be held Feb. 25 in the McNary Conference Center, 100 Medical Boulevard, Canonsburg.
• 1 to 1:45 p.m. – Heart-Healthy Nutrition, presented by Melisa Fabyonic; a question-and-answer session will follow the 30-minute presentation.
• 1:45 to 2 p.m. – Health Care at Home, presented by Lauree Criss, director of Transitional Care.
• 2 to 2:45 p.m. – Heart Health, Dr. J. Travis Wilson, cardiologist; a question-and-answer session will follow the 30-minute presentation.
• 3 to 3:45 p.m. – SilverSneakers, presented by Tanieccia Betty.
Everyone who attends will be eligible to win a Nutri-Bullet; can enjoy chair massages from Dr. Tyson Swigart of Southpointe Chiropractic; and participate in free health screenings and giveaways.
Events will be held Feb. 25 at the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center, 240 Wellness Way, Washington.
• 6 a.m. – Triathlon for employees and members. Two prizes will be awarded: one for the triathalon winner and one for the team that raises the most money for the AHA.
• 6 p.m. – Zumbathon. Membership is not required. Minimum donation is $5 minimum. Those who attend will receive a free gift.
In addition, Stroke for Strokes will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 at Painting with a Twist, 76 Old Mill Blvd., Washington.
Cost is $35 per person, and registration is required through Painting with a Twist’s website, https://www.paintingwithatwist.com/washington-pa/.
Free snacks and refreshments will be provided by Markook Mediterranean. There also will be a Chinese auction, and raffle tickets will be sold. Proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
Washington also will sell Go Red T-shirts and provide free blood pressure screenings in February at the Wellness Center.
