Mariah Carey to perform at ‘VH1 Divas Holiday’ concert
NEW YORK (AP) – Mariah Carey is getting into full diva mode for the holidays: She’s the first act announced for next month’s “VH1 Divas Holiday: Unsilent Night” concert special.
Carey, whose “All I Want for Christmas” is one of the most listened-to holiday songs of all-time, will perform at the event that tapes on Dec. 2 at the Kings Theatre in New York. The TV special will air on VH1 on Dec. 5.
Additional performers will be announced at a later day.
The event will mark the third time Carey has performed at a “VH1 Divas” event, which is returning after a four-year break. The pop star said in a statement Thursday she’s “thrilled” to perform for her fans and called the holiday season her “favorite and most festive time of year.”
NEW YORK (AP) – “America’s Got Talent” judge Melanie Brown will soon remind Broadway audiences what kind of talent she’s got when she joins the musical “Chicago,” playing jailed killer Roxie Hart.
Brown, also known as Scary Spice during her time with the 1990s pop group the Spice Girls, starts Dec. 28 at the Ambassador Theatre. She follows an impressive list of stars in the role, including Marilu Henner, Ashlee Simpson and Christie Brinkley.
Brown has been a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and was a judge on the Australian edition of “The X Factor.”
Set in the 1920s, “Chicago” is a scathing satire of how show business and the media make celebrities out of criminals. It has a Bob Fosse-inspired choreography, skimpy outfits and killer songs such as “All That Jazz.”
