Melega Museum to host new exhibit
The Frank L. Melega Art Museum, 69 Market St., Brownsville, will host an exhibit, “Abstractionista – Impressions – Intuitive – Treasure,” featuring four artists Sept. 17 through Dec. 18
The artists are photographer Dr. Jean Braun, painters Mary Jean Kenton and Leslie Robbins and printmaker Thomas J. Norulak.
Braun will be exhibiting photographs that will be featured in a new novel by Jean Gottlieb Bradley, “Beyond the Crossroads: A Journey of Love.” The fictional novel continues the saga of Joan Bradley, introduced in “At the Crossroads: A Southern Daughter’s Story.” This is a first for the museum, combining literature with the visual arts.
Kenton has spent much of her artistic life focused on color. Her art has a sometimes subtle, sometimes brash juxtaposition of colors, shapes and values. Viewers often pause a moment to see rather than just look at the colors the world offers.
Norulak is one of Pittsburgh’s most wel- known and respected printmakers. A prolific artist, Norulak is constantly exploring the potential of the medium. He creates expressive, sometimes mysterious images often based on nature and area locations.
Robbins has been exhibiting at the Carnegie Art Museum and Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Her subject is dogs, painting in a style all her own. The elegant whippet is a recurring image used with imagination and dynamism.
An free opening reception will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 17. Parking also will be free.
The museum is open weekdays, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and by appointment. For weekday hours of operation, call 724-785-9331 or visit the museum’s website, melegaartmuseum.org.
