Friends of Citizens Library will kick off their 2016-17 speaker series, Lunch with Friends, at noon Tuesday with a polygraph expert who will discuss notable cases involving the use of a lie detector.

Morris E. Ragus, who served as a counterintelligence special agent and a U.S. intelligence case officer in military intelligence, will discuss the Dr. Sam Sheppard case, the murder of a Blairsville dentist by a state police trooper and a case involving Sarah Jessica Parker’s surrogate.

Ragus served as an intelligence case officer in Tehran, Iran, was special investigator and chief polygraph examiner for the Pennsylvania Office of Inspector General and a special investigator with the FBI. He also was recognized as a military debriefer during the return of prisoners of war from Vietnam. He retired as chief warrant officer after 20 years with the U.S. Army, and is now an independent polygraph examiner.

Lunch will be available for $6.

This year’s other guest speakers are Clayton Kilgore, who will discuss the Underground Railroad, Oct. 11; Norman Richards, author of “Giants in the Sky,” Nov. 8; Adam Sutch & the Sutch Sound, Dec. 13; Tom Northrop, to be announced, March 14; Jean Kanouff, Hats Through History, April 11; and Emily Rodavich, author of “Mystical Interludes: An Ordinary Person’s Extraordinary Experiences,” May 9.
