Monongahela’s Mendola stars in ‘Shrek The Musical’
Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center will present “Shrek The Musical” beginning Friday. It stars Zach Mendola, a senior from Monongahela.
“I play the character Shrek in the musical, and this will be my fifth show at Lincoln Park,” Mendola said. “What’s impressive about this show is the underlying theme of acceptance is personally touching to me.
“I have read the book and seen both the movie and the musical. They are different in their own ways and I feel that the musical ties the whole story together the best. I have loved the opportunity of being able to play a role completely different than any other that I have done.”
Because of the technical nature of the show, Lincoln Park is bringing in a make-up artist and designer that has expertise with “Shrek.” It will take more than hour before every performance to transform Mendola from a typical high school senior to a gentle ogre.
Shows will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, April 7 and 8 and at 2 p.m. Sunday and April 9. For ticket information, call 724-576-4644 or visit www.LincolnParkArts.org.
