HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania health care advocates say insurance plan enrollments under the federal health care law are surging ahead of the first deadline to sign up for a policy.
Monday night is the deadline to enroll in a plan that takes effect Jan. 1. The next deadline is Jan. 15 for a plan that takes effect Feb. 1.
Antoinette Kraus of the Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Health Access Network says over half of all the enrollments her organization assisted happened this past week. The signup period began Oct. 1.
Kraus also says enrollees are now referring friends and family members.
Meanwhile, Laura Line of Philadelphia-based Resources for Human Development says her group enrolled people all weekend and was very busy again Monday.
The federal government says nearly 11,800 Pennsylvanians signed up through Nov. 30.
