Army Capt. Kent Monas has received the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award. The award recognizes company grade officers who demonstrate the ideals for which general MacArthur stood – duty, honor, country – and promotes and sustains effective junior officer leadership in the Army. Monas is serving as a company commander with F Company Gray Eagle, Fort Riley, Kan. He has served in the military for 10 years. Monas is a 2000 graduate of Waynesburg High School, and he earned a bachelor’s degree in 2004 from Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Va.

U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Frank J. Schell graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force. Schell is a 2013 graduate of North Hills High School, and his parents are Frank Schell of Pittsburgh and Kelli Podany of Charleroi.
