Laser show returns to Canonsburg
The Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church sanctuary will be transformed Dec. 15 and 16 during the 12th annual Christmas Laser Spectacular.
George Dodworth, a church member and president of Lightwave International, will present the show. Dodworth has presented laser demonstrations all over the world. His lighting effects have been featured in many celebrity concert tours including Imagine Dragons, The Killers, Joe Walsh, and in many movies, including “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Lightwave International has also supplied the lasers for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Though Dodworth travels all over the world, his heart and passion remains in helping his community. Dodworth originated the idea of presenting a laser show at the church as a way to hearten the spirit of Christmas as well asw to encourage people to embrace the “season of giving” by helping those less fortunate.
“We pack more equipment, millions of dollars of lasers for most shows, into the church sanctuary,” said Dodworth. “I think we really undersell the event; the average person reading about the show will just expect a small church performance and probably dismiss it. But it’s far from anything they have seen before.”
This will be Dodworth’s 12th year of sponsoring the Christmas Laser Spectacular at Canonsburg UP Church. All funds donated at the shows go directly to helping people in the community. In the past, funds were given to Meals on Wheels, Washington City Mission, Avis Arbor Women’s Shelter, Canonsburg-Houston Food Pantry, Family Promise, Blessings in a Backpack and Washington County Habitat for Humanity, just to name a few.
Tickets are available at www.canonsburgup.org and at the church office, 112 W. Pike St., Canonsburg, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
