Billboard warns against distracted driving
On March 28, two California Area High School students were named the winners of a billboard-design contest that required students to deliver a message to stop distracted driving.
Students from seven area schools submitted nine designs for judging. The contest was sponsored by State Farm Insurance, who partnered with South West Region Traffic Safety Network (SWRTSN) and the state Department of Transportation.

One of the design winners, Hanna Engle, with Dax Thomas from State Farm Insurance.
The winning entry was designed by Lainley Stewart and Hanna Engle. A check for $1,000 was awarded to the California High School Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter, and Stewart and Engle each received a check for $100. The school received copies of the designs on posters to display. The prizes and costs were provided through a grant from State Farm Insurance.
The billboard design is currently on display along Route 40 at the intersection of Malden Road and will be viewed by motorists for the next two months. The billboard will bring attention to the dangers of distracted driving during April, which is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
