First agriculture mechanics contest held
More than 20 members from Avella, McGuffey and Trinity FFA chapters attended the first Washington County FFA Agriculture Mechanics CDE contest March 27. Teams consisted of four members, who competed as a team and as individuals. Each student was individually tested on their knowledge and hands-on skills of tool identification, welding, small gas engines and masonry. Teams had to work together to construct a wood frame and mount their electrical project. The electrical project included wiring a plug, switch and light fixture. Team and individual scores were combined to determine the overall team and individual scores. The top teams were McGuffey Team A, Tyler Maxwell, Colby Deemer, Seth Meighen and John Wright, who earned first place; Trinity Team B, Cody Oravetz, Dylan Rhodes, Ben Weaver and Seth Moore, who earned second place; and McGuffey Team B, Billy Loya, Austin Clark, Travis Dennison and Ryan Tremel, who earned third place. In the individual event, McGuffey took the top two spots and Trinity took third.
