Cal U. partners with Ohio Valley Hospital on online nursing courses
California University of Pennsylvania will offer online nursing courses to students at a second health-care entity.
The university announced Tuesday it is partnering with Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing on online education. This alliance, according to Cal U. spokeswoman Christine Kindl, is similar to one the school has with Washington Health System School of Nursing.
Ohio Valley Hospital is in Kennedy Township, west of Pittsburgh.
Cal U. will offer Ohio Valley students pursuing a nursing diploma an opportunity to earn up to 30 nondegree credits online. Nursing students can complete their science and general education requirements electronically, while training at the hospital.
California’s alliance with WHS’s School of Nursing began in 2015. That program has helped more than 170 students prepare to enter the School of Nursing’s program or graduate with the nursing diploma necessary to become a registered nurse.
Each alliance ensures students who become RNs can transition easily into Cal’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which is completely online.
The partnership pleases Valerie Gaydosh, director of Ohio Valley’s nursing school. She said in a statement: “(Cal U.) has coordinated the presentation of content in their courses to align with our nursing content, they have scheduled courses to coincide with our semesters as we needed, and they have opened their library resources – both brick-and-mortar and online …”
