Parents of school-aged children are encouraged to attend a “Back to School” forum at Donora Public Library. The event will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Sundeep Ekbote, director of Mon Valley Hospital’s Emergency Department. Dr. Ekbote will focus on two important issues facing schools and students: bullying and opioids. The back to school forum is organized and presented by the Mon Valley NAACP.

The Martha Washington Quilters Guild will hold its monthly business meeting at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Church of the Covenant, third floor, 276 E. Beau St., Washington. A “show and tell” and presentation on making a zig zag quilt will follow the meeting. Guests are welcome.

Pittsburgh New Works Festival has announced its lineup for their 28th season, including plays presented by 18 Pittsburgh-region theater companies and featuring 120 local artists on stage and behind the scenes. The plays were selected from 341 submissions received from seven countries and 35 states. The MainStage Festival includes four programs, each including three plays, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 23. Tickets are available at www.pittsburghnewworks.org.
