Cement City Home and Walking Tour
The Donora Historical Society’s eighth annual and fall edition Cement City Home and Walking Tours will begin at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 and 23. This year marks the 101st year for Donora’s National Historic District.
The tour will start at the Smog Museum with an in-depth photo, blueprint and artifact presentation. The photos were taken during the construction in 1916 and 1917 by Donora’s original photographer, Bruce Dreisbach, on glass plate negatives. Participants will get a firsthand look of how they built continuously poured concrete houses more than 100 years ago.
The tour will proceed by driving up to Donora’s first planned housing community for the walking tour portion. The walk will conclude by touring the interior of at least two homes in which rooms are restored to the period.
The presentation and tour will last about two hours and thirty minutes. Space is limited. The cost of the tour is $13 per person. Reservations are required by calling 724-823-0364 or emailing DonoraHistoricalSociety@gmail.com.
