McMurray Art League offers fall classes in collage, oil, watercolor and pastel portraits. All classes are held at the MAL studio in the McDowell Shops on Route 19. Mingo Rod & Gun Club meets at 3 p.m. the third Sunday of each month. The club house is open at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Shooting ranges are available from 9 a.m. to sunset Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to sunset on Sundays. An improved walking archery range is also available at those same times. Penn State Extension will have a Home Food Preservation booth at the Waynesburg Farmers Market, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29. An Extension Educator will provide recommendations on how to safely can and freeze seasonal garden produce and specialty items. Those who own a dial gauge canner that needs to be checked, bring the lid with the dial gauge on it to the market exhibit for free testing. Giant Oaks Garden Club will meet for its monthly luncheon and program at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 905 E. McMurray Road, Venetia. The 28th Annual Pittsburgh Irish Festival will be held Sept. 7-9 at the Riverplex at Sandcastle. International, national and local acts will perform and Irish dance will be highlighted. A complete schedule, photos and ticket information can be found at www.pghirishfest.org.

Sarosi’s Coins and More Promotions will hold a coin show Sept. 7-9, at the Monroeville Convention Center, South Wing, 209 Mall Blvd. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. In addition to free admission, free parking and free appraisals, there will be a daily gold coin giveaway and an hourly $10 door prize.

The Amateur Astronomer’s Association of Pittsburgh will hold public star parties on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7 and 8, at Mingo Creek Observatory located in Mingo Creek County Park, near Shelter 10. The program will begin at dusk. Viewing will take place as long as there is a partly clear sky. If it is raining or cloudy the program will be canceled. RandyDon Ministries will hold an Inner-City Block Party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the LeMoyne Center in Washington. The event will include bounce houses, food, haircuts, clothing, bands, face painting and more, all for free. For information, visit www.randydon.org.

White Oak American Legion Post #701 located at 2813 Capital Street will sponsor oldies dances from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 8 and 22. Admission is $5 per person. All proceeds benefit veterans programs. For information, call 724-984-6611.

Red Eagle Village Annual Pow Wow will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 9, at Heritage Park in McDonald. The event will include food and craft vendors, an auction each day, auction baskets and a candy dance for younger children. Admission is free.

Mon Valley Academy for the Arts Summer Concert Series at Chess Park comes to a close on Sunday, Sept. 9, with performances from 1 to 4 p.m. at the park gazebo. Allies Band from Uniontown will perform from 1 to 1:45 followed by Pittsburgh acoustic John Vento Band, newly formed Twin Coaches Jr. Jazz Trio and the Jessica Lee Band. The Golden Triangle Decorative Painters will host a three-day Watercolor seminar with artist Mark Polomchak on Sept. 14-16 at the Finleyville I.O.O.F. Hall, 3684 Finleyville-Elrama Road.
