Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, 112 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, will offer GriefShare Support Group from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Sept. 5, in Fellowship Hall. The Parent Group – Southwestern Local Task Force 1 monthly meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Intermediate Unit 1, One Intermediate Unit Drive, Coal Center. All parents of children with disabilities are encouraged to attend, as well as personnel from agencies and school districts in the Washington, Fayette and Greene counties. Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in the Carmichaels Methodist Church Fellowship Hall for a meeting/birthday party. Sister Audrey Quinn, director of the Greene County Salvation Army, will be the guest speaker. Members are reminded to bring gifts for the birthday party that will be donated to the Salvation Army’s Birthday Club. New members are welcome.
Penn State Extension will offer a presentation on home food preservation canning basics from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Bedner’s Farm and Greenhouse, 315 Coleman Road, McDonald. An Extension Educator will discuss how to safely can and freeze seasonal garden produce and specialty items. Those with a dial gauge canner that needs to be checked are asked to bring the lid with the dial gauge on it to the booth between 11 a.m. and noon for free testing. Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation will offer an afternoon of flat water kayaking beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Cross Creek County Park. No experience is required. Kayaks, paddles and life jackets are provided. Meet at the Lynn Portal Road Launch Area in the park. There is no fee, but preregistration is required as space is limited. Chartiers Custom Pet Cremation will host its annual Pet Memorial Day remembrance ceremony from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Melrose Cemetery, Bridgeville, for anyone dealing with grief over the loss of a pet. Three speakers will discuss: “Our Last Moments Together,” “Our Grief Response” and “The Joy of Pets: Pet Parenting after Loss.” Pet owners can offer their own tributes, which will be read by the speakers. Bring a photo or memento of your pet to be displayed during the ceremony. The event will also include a candle-lighting ceremony and a dove release. After the ceremony, pet owners may submit their pet’s photo and tribute, which will be included in a video/slideshow and added to CCPC’s website, www.ccpc.ws/tribute-scroll.
