The East Finley One-Room School Reunion will be held at noon on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, in the Templeton Pavilion at the East Finley Park. Bring a covered dish and drink to share. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Anyone who has ever attended any one-room school is invited. For information, call Ed or Peggy Tush at 724-267-2838.
A community dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Liberty United Methodist Church, 1330 Banetown Road, Washington. The menu will include creamed chicken and biscuit, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw or fruit, dessert and beverage. United Mine Workers of America’s Pensioner Leadership Committee will hold its 11th annual picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Ten Mile Creek County Park near Clarksville. All dues-paying active and retired members are invited to attend and bring their families. A picnic lunch will be served. UMWA International Secretary-Treasurer Levi Allen will be the keynote speaker.
Chartiers-Houston Marching Band Festival will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the high school stadium. Participating in addition to Chartiers-Houston will be Canon-McMillan, North Hills, Peters Township and others to be announced.
Penn State Master Gardeners of Washington County will lead a tour of the Demonstration Gardens at the Washington County Fairgrounds from 11:15 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 8. The tour will feature plants for fall color, growing dahlias, a pollinator garden and more. Meet at the Gazebo Garden across from the office. For information, call 724-225-2716.
