Those who would like to learn more about sheep or goat production and how to prepare for lambing or kidding are invited to a Lambing and Kidding School on March 2 at the Penn State Extension office in Westmoreland County.

The purpose of the school is to improve a sheep or goat producer’s skills for managing pregnant ewes or does, and managing lambing or kidding.

The school will include topics on feeding for breeding, pregnancy or milk production; health issues during pregnancy and after lambing; preparing for lambing/kidding, lambing/kidding problems, and delivering lambs or kids; and udder care and mastitis.

Producers will learn how to prevent some problems as well as learn how to manage any problems that may occur.

There is no cost to attend, but registration is required by Feb. 23 at www.extension.psu.edu/sheep-and-goat-workshops-lambing-and-kidding or call 877-345-0691.

Registration includes lunch and educational materials. The Penn State Extension Office in Westmoreland County is located at 214 Donohoe Road, Greensburg.

The workshop is sponsored by Penn State Extension, PA Department of Agriculture, Fayette County Community Action Agency and Republic Food Enterprise Center. For more information, call 814-623-4800 or email meh7@psu.edu.
