The Mary Hillman Jennings Foundation board of trustees has approved a $200,000 grant to Transitional Paths to Independent Living (TRPIL).

The funds will be used to renovate the former YWCA Building at 42 West Maiden St., Washington, into TRPIL’s universally accessible headquarters and community center. Construction is moving along quickly, and TRPIL plans to move into the building in the near future.

“We are very appreciative of what this means to TRPIL and helping us move further toward our goal of renovating the former YWCA,” said Kathleen Kleinmann, TRPIL’s CEO. “With the support of the Mary Hillman Jennings Foundation, we know this gift can be a catalyst for other ones as well.”

The entire lower level of the building will be renovated in the first phase of reconstruction. It will include the direct care worker training center, offices, storage, and a conference area. In Phase II, the gymnasium/stage area will be renovated along with additional offices along the main level and the second and third floors.

TRPIL provides a wide range of services that support people with disabilities in leading independent and productive lives. TRPIL provides information and experience to assist people with disabilities in facing their challenges in transportation, employment, housing, schooling, civil rights, and professional and personal interactions.

For more information about donating to TRPIL’s capital campaign, contact Joann Naser at jnaser@tripil.com or 724-223-5115.
