Avella honors 35 graduates
Avella High School held commencement exercises for 35 graduates Friday in the gymnasium.
Speaking at the ceremony were valedictorian Sarah Dzurko and salutatorian Paige Allen.
Dzurko is the daughter of Michael and Amy Dzurko of Avella. Among her awards are the Daughters of American Revolution Good Citizens Award and the Top of the Ohio Valley Academic Excellence Award. She was class secretary, president of Students Against Destructive Decisions, editor-in-chief for her school newspaper and a member of National Honor Society and science club. She plans to attend Duquesne University to study mathematics and secondary education.
Allen is the daughter of Jeremy and Shasta Allen of Avella. Among her awards are the Georgianna and Robert Riley Jr. Scholarship and the Washington-Greene County Chapter Senior Scholar Athlete Award. Allen participated in the Community Service Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, the science club and was a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Bethany College to study psychology.
