Monessen opens military banner tribute program
The Monessen Pennsylvania Veterans Council and Monessen Public Library have reopened the Military Banner Tribute program.
Photos of veterans, living or deceased, and active or inactive duty military persons, will be displayed on banners hanging from utility poles in the city of Monessen. There are currently about 275 banners displayed throughout the city and park from previous programs.
The cost is $100 per banner. The average life span of a banner is 3 to 5 years.
Applications for the banners will be taken at the Monessen Library. A picture, some general information about their service and a check or Money Order made out to “Monessen Public Library” are required. Note that the library is closed Fridays and Sundays. People who live out of town may call the library at 724-684-4750. Applications are available at www.troopbanners.com/monessen and can be emailed to dzilka@hotmail.com. Checks can be sent to the Monessen Public Library, 362 Donner Ave, Monessen, PA 15062. Existing banners can be viewed at www.troopbanners.com/monessen.
The Monessen Veterans Council consists of the Joe Walker/Mon Valley Chapter of the Air Force Association, American Legion, Thomas McKee Post 28, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1190, Mon Valley Shipmates and Mon Valley Leathernecks. Chairman of the Monessen Military Banner Tribute is Ron Chromulak, Commander of VFW Post 1190.
