West Greene Lions laud students
West Greene Area Lions Club recently named McKayla Jacobs, Rachel Jones and Garret Ross as Outstanding Students.

McKayla Jacobs
Jacobs, daughter of Gerald and Amy Thomas of Waynesburg and Dave and Carla Jacobs of Graysville, has been a member of the Pioneer marching band for six years as well as drum major and color guard captain. She has been in the Science Club for four years, serving as both president and vice president; Spanish Club for four years, serving as secretary; and National Honor Society for three years. McKayla received the Golden Shoe Award in Marching Band, President’s Education Award and Perfect Attendance Award. She has done community service at the Graysville Volunteer Fire Hall and 2nd Sam 9, a Christian program for special needs adults. She plans to attend Geneva College to major in early education and special education.

Rachel Jones
Jones, daughter of Kurt and Connie Jones of Holbrook, is a member of the National Honor Society, Science Club, Ski Club, Drama Club and International Club, where she serves as president. She is captain of her school’s cross country team. Rachel received the Citizenship Award for 2016-17, highest honors 2014-2017, first in class, Scholar Athlete 2014-2017 and track MVP. Her community service includes being an American Red Cross blood drive volunteer, assembling scriptures at church and organizing food bags for the Pioneer Pantry. Rachel plans to attend Carlow University to major in biology. She hopes to become a perfusionist.

Garret Ross
Ross is the son of Brian and Penny Ross of Aleppo. Garret’s achievements include Peer Mentor of the Year, American Citizenship Award, Football Rookie of the Year 2016-17, honorary football captain, FFA Welding Award, FFA Agriculture Award, FFA president 2017-18, Greenhand Degree, FFA Chapter Degree, FFA State Keystone Degree, vice president of the 4-H Shot Gun Club, Scholar Athlete, Little League Baseball assistant coach, Greene County Farm Bureau volunteer, Peer Court member and 2017 varsity basketball captain. He plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to major in education.
