Cassandra Muhr, daughter of Lori and Michael Muhr of Avella, was named to the fall dean’s list at Washington & Jefferson College. A music and communications major, she is a member of the Red and Black newspaper staff, WNJR Radio, the Washington Fellows Program and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Cassandra is a 2017 graduate of Avella Junior/Senior High School. Her grandparents are Judy and Rudy Keron of Washington, the late Karen Burda and the late Dennis Muhr.
Mark Gardner, son of Katherine and Lawren Gardner of Avella, was named to the fall dean’s list at Penn State Beaver. A mechanical engineering major, he is a 2016 graduate of Avella High School.
Alexa Sabo, daughter of Frank and Kimberlee Sabo of Burgettstown, was named to the fall dean’s list at Slippery Rock University, where she is a junior majoring in exercise science. Alexa is the granddaughter of Russ and Rosemary Orenchuk of Burgettstown. She is a 2015 graduate of Burgettstown Junior/Senior High School.
Annalese Weldy of Bridgeport, daughter of Kathryn Weldy, DPM, and Charles Weldy, DPM, of Canonsburg, graduated from West Virginia University with a Masters of Arts in Instruction Design and Technology. She holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. A 2006 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, she is employed at East Fairmont High School as a math educator. Annalese is the student council advisor, travel club sponsor and Math Field Day coordinator. She also tutors after school.
James L. Stienstraw lll of Cecil Township has been named to the president’s list at West Virginia University for the fall semester. James is a sophomore majoring in computer science and biometrics engineering. He is the son of James Stienstraw Jr. and the late Kathy Stienstraw.
Kyle Roupe, son of Debbie Greer-McWreath of Washington, was named to the fall president’s list at Community College of Beaver County’s Police Academy. A 2013 graduate of Trinity High School, he is the grandson of Joyce and the late Daniel Hammond of Washington.
Sixteen students recently were inducted into the Sheetz Fellows, a competitive academic program intended to create unique opportunities for students at Penn State Altoona by fostering critical thinking, ingenuity, leadership and problem-solving skills. The 16 inductees, including Makayla Plants of Washington, will receive a medallion and special recognition at commencement.
Alysse Brianne Kelly, daughter of Jim and Suzanne Kelly of Washington, graduated from Excela Health School of Anesthesia. She is a 2007 graduate of Trinity High School and a cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. She worked for two years as a nurse in Cardiac ICU at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh before attending nurse anesthesia school. Alysse has accepted a position at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital as a nurse anesthetist.
