Greene chamber awards first Davis scholarship
The Greene County Chamber of Commerce recently awarded scholarships to two residents.

Aubree Ferek
The Scholarship Fund Committee awarded its 28th annual scholarship to Aubree Ferek of Carmichaels. Aubree, 17, is a graduating senior at Carmichaels Area High School and plans to attend Slippery Rock University to purse a degree in exercise science/pre-physician assistant program. She is the daughter of Ron and Brenda Ferek of Carmichaels. This scholarship, presented to a Greene County senior who plans to attend a college, university or trade school, is awarded based on grade-point average and an essay. In addition to the scholarship, Aubree will receive a laptop courtesy of John Frownfelter, owner of PCsquared, to use during her college career.

Matthew Komula
The chamber also awarded its first Dr. Nancy I. Davis Memorial Leadership Scholarship to Matthew Komula of Rices Landing. The scholarship was established to honor the memory of Dr. Nancy I. Davis who was an educator and advocate for education. Applicants were required to submit a narrative on how they have demonstrated leadership in education and a list of their local community involvement. The program is open to any Greene County resident who is enrolled or accepted in an undergrad or grad program.
Komula is employed by the Trinity Area School District and is a 1992 graduate of Duquesne University and a 2009 graduate of the University of Phoenix. He is currently enrolled at Kent State University seeking his master of music, music education degree.
The scholarships will be presented at the May general membership networking luncheon of the chamber, May 30 at Waynesburg University’s Benedum Dining Hall.
