Nearly 100 people gathered May 3 for the first National Day of Prayer celebration at City Mission, Washington.

The crowd, which consisted of community members, local churches and City Mission residents and staff formed a giant prayer circle in the parking lot and prayed for unity in America.

“As I looked around and saw people from different backgrounds, ethnicities and circumstances holding hands for one purpose, my heart was humbled,” said City Mission’s Church and Community Relations Specialist, Cassie Defibaugh, who organized the event. “It was an amazing way to showcase this year’s theme of ‘Unity’ in our diverse city. It was a truly special time when people could forget what made us all so vastly different and remember that through the blood of Christ, we are all one.”

City Mission plans to host another National Day of Prayer festival in 2019 that will draw an even larger crowd.
