Group aims to pack 1 million meals
Thousands are expected at David L. Lawrence Convention Center to sing, pray and pack more than 1 million meals for the hungry the day after Thanksgiving for the second annual “Amen to Action” event.
Last year, more than 3,000 volunteers packed 1,014,366 meals for the Pittsburgh community. Meals were packed using a system developed by the Meals of Hope organization then delivered to those in need through the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The event sold out and broke Pittsburgh records for packing the most meals in one day in a single location.
“Amen to Action” was founded by a group of Pittsburgh clergy and lay leaders with the shared vision: “to connect people of all faiths, creating a platform of harmony and amassing spiritual capital more potent than all the coal in the hills and steel in the mills-and in so doing, lead Pittsburgh to become a spiritual power plant for the rest of the world.”
