Mon Valley residents interested in a holiday tour of the state Capitol can register for a Dec. 6 bus trip hosted by state Rep. Austin Davis, D-Allegheny. The trip aboard a luxury coach will include lunch and a tour of both the Governor’s Residence and the state Capitol building, both of which will be decorated for the holiday season. Space is limited to 55 people and registration costs $35. The deadline to reserve a seat is Nov. 22. For information, call 412-664-0035.
Downtown West Newton Inc.’s 17th Annual Miracle on Main Street – Light up Night Festival “Elf on a Shelf” will be held from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, on Main and Second streets. The event will feature DJ Galiffa on Center Stage all day and a Christmas Craft & Vendor Market with 30 vendors at the West Newton Presbyterian Church and West Newton Senior Center (interested vendors should call 724-989-2141). At 3:45, Jimmy Sykes and students will hold a Christmas organ and music recital at the church. The Grand Christmas Parade on Main Street will begin at 5:15. At 6, Santa Claus arrives with the lighting of the community Christmas tree and Stage Right! Sensations will perform on Center Stage along with other musical talents. The Mega Gift Basket Raffle will take place all day, and there will be 50/50 and lottery tree raffles at the LeGrande Room. All proceeds benefit Light up Night. Activities will be held rain, snow or shine.
A Veterans Day service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial Site in Eldersville on Cedar Grove Road. This will be a short service with veterans invited to speak, if they wish. Refreshments will be served after in the White Church. For information, call 724-947-9782.
The Amwell Township Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 in the township building. Sarah Lerch from the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum will present on the history of the Washington County Courthouse.
The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2999 Bethel Church Road, Bethel Park. The Washington Corp. of the Salvation Army located at 60 E. Maiden Street will hold its monthly rummage sale on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Doors open at 9 a.m., with the bag sale beginning at noon. There will be no sale in December.
