Autumn is a great time to take a trip to your local park and enjoy the colors of fall while connecting with nature and wildlife. It’s also the start of the fall foraging season as squirrels, deer, birds and other wildlife hunt for nuts and nutritious plants.

On a recent visit to Washington Park, I found myself surrounded by deer. It was peaceful, knowing that they were there, safe from hunters. I was able to quietly sit on a bench and just observe. I noticed a deer emerge from the woods, then seem to watch me. After a few minutes, she started eating acorns, then continued on her way up the hillside.

It was a thrill to be in the presence of such a beautiful, graceful creature.
