Robotics competition comes to Washington Co.
The Titanium Titans FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team 4467 hosted a scrimmage for 10 local FIRST Lego League (FLL) robotics teams recently at Range Resources.
Named the “Talented Titanium Titans Tournament,” the competition was the southernmost event ever offered to FLL teams in Western Pennsylvania and gave many local teams the experience of a “home” event for the first time.
More than 200 people were in attendance, including FLL student participants and FRC Titanium Titans mentors and volunteers. Sponsor Range Resources donated the event space.
FLL teams compete by building robots out of Legos, motors and a variety of sensors to complete themed challenges. This year’s theme is “Into Orbit,” with space-themed missions.
The Titanium Titans are a high-school-aged robotics team based in Canonsburg, comprised of 32 students from 11 school districts in Washington and Allegheny counties, and are currently the only FRC team in Washington County. The long-term goal of the Titanium Titans is to raise an innovative, inspired, and well-equipped generation of problem-solvers through robotics competition, and improved engagement in STEM-based education while enriching the greater community.
