Martha Rotz of Washington celebrated her 100th birthday on Aug. 31 at a party with family and close friends. Her children, Doug, Karen and Debbie who reside in Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and San Diego respectively, and their families including spouses, grandchildren, a great-grandchild and two of her nieces were in attendance.

Martha was born August 31, 1918, in Altoona. She was married to the late Col. Carl Rotz for more than 70 years. They lived in many different places including Washington, D.C., Germany and Alaska. With their children, they saw much of the world on their 30-year tour of duty in the U.S. Army.

Upon retirement from the military, they moved back to Pennsylvania where Carl worked as vice president of business and finance at Washington & Jefferson College. They both were involved in the community and enjoyed golfing, bowling and skiing in their leisure time.

Mrs. Rotz attributes her age to staying active, eating light, low stress, a loving family and many friends.

She had planned to go skydiving on this milestone birthday but the weather called for rain. She plans on trying again next year.
