Every year, the Martha Washington Garden Club of Washington offers a $1,000 scholarship to a Washington County student who has completed at least one year of college or university and plans to continue their education in agriculture, horticulture or environmental studies. The club is able to offer the scholarship in part due to a stipend from the Washington County Council on Economic Development.

This year’s scholarship winner is Grace Marchezak, a 2017 graduate of Bentworth High School who completed her first year at Penn State with an agribusiness major.

Her passion for agriculture started early in her life on Twin Brook Farm, her family’s dairy farm, established in 1952. She is a third-generation farmer, and her father has farmed as his primary occupation for his entire life.

Marchezak said she wants to work in marketing and communications for the agriculture industry. With her knowledge of dairy farming, she believes she can make an impact.
