Pennsylvania American Water will spend $8 million to upgrade water storage tanks – elevated and ground-level – in 15 municipalities statewide. Two of them are in Washington County.

Claysville Borough will receive an upgrade to its 250,000-gallon ground storage tank and Union Township a rehab of its 500,000-gallon ground storage tank.

Work also is scheduled on storage tanks in four other Southwestern Pennsylvania towns: Allison Township, Fayette County (127,000-gallon ground tank); Baldwin Borough (800,000-gallon clarifier) and Jefferson Hills (300,000-gallon elevated tank), Allegheny County; and North Sewickley Township (500,000-gallon ground tank), Beaver County.

Work, according to a corporate news release, will entail inspecting, sandblasting and repainting tanks to extend their service lives and to maintain water quality.

Pennsylvania American, a subsidiary of American Water, said it does not anticipate service interruptions.

The company said it invested about $6.6 million to upgrade 10 tanks in 2018.
