The Mon Valley Academy for the Arts has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the EQT Foundation to be used for the 2019 EQT/MVAA Summer Concert Series. On Sunday, April 28, the MVAA will kick off the 2019 Concert Season with a “Spring Fling” gala from 4 to 7 p.m. at Off the Wall Arts Studio, 532 McKean Ave., Charleroi. Doors open at 3:30. A $10 donation will include entertainment by Jessica Lee Jazz, appetizers, wine tasting and special announcements concerning the 2019 EQT/MVAA Summer Concert Series. Between June 2019 and September 2019, eight outdoor concerts will be presented free to the public. Concert locations will be Chess Park in Monongahela and Palmer Park in Donora. The Mon Valley Opioid Coalition will hold a public meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 30 at the Mon Valley Career and Technology Center, 5 Guttman Ave., Speers. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to meet members of the coalition and learn about the group’s goals and the progress that has been made toward combating the opioid epidemic and other substance abuse issues that affect residents of the Mon Valley.
