Wild Flowers are blooming in time for Enlow Fork ‘Spring Fling’
The red trilium are blooming in State Game Lands 302 in Richhill Township, Greene County, just in time for Sunday’s Enlow Fork “Spring Fling.”
The event begins at 8 a.m. with an Early Bird Walk begins at 8 a.m. and continues at 10 a.m. with a guided wildflower and history walk.
This branch of Wheeling Creek that separates Greene from Washington counties is stocked for trout season and is famous for its carpets of colensia verna – blue eyed Mary, a southern wildflower that thrives in this sheltered valley. The area is also known for its red trillium, Virginia bluebells, Greek valerian, trout lily, Jack in the Pulpit wild ginger and scores of other spring flowers.
New this year, Greene County Museum director Matt Cumberledge will lead a walk to the archaeological site of the indigenous village that was discovered in 1961 and identify the trail marker trees that are still standing here.
Food, refreshments and environmental information will be available.
