Pennsylvania casinos hit the jackpot in 2018, collectively setting a record for combined revenue from slot machine and table games play.
The 12 gaming sites generated $3.25 billion during the calendar year, eclipsing the record set in 2017, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Last year’s figure, specifically, was $3,248,681,377, about $21.7 million above the 2017 standard of $3,226,910,816.
Last year was the 13th year casinos operated in the Keystone State. Table games were not instituted in Pennsylvania until July 2010.
Slots revenue in 2018 was $2,369,885,203 and table games play brought in $878,796,174. Table games revenue dipped 1.34 percent from $890,697,914 in 2017, a deficit more than offset by table games play.
Table games revenue declined 2.28 percent last year at Meadows Casino. The North Strabane Township gaming site generated $35,776,680 in 2018, down from $36,603,067 the year before. Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh experienced a 15.57 percent increase year over year, while Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin, in Fayette County, fell 11.32 percent at the tables.
The Gaming Board reported that the combined play resulted in $1,377,254,368 in tax revenue last year.
Ttable games revenue at the Meadows last month also dropped off – from $2,910,039 in December 2017 to $2,858,181, or 1.78 percent. Rivers realized an 8.46 year-over-year increase, while Lady Luck’s revenue dropped 37.1 percent.
