Belko Foods closing Waynesburg store
Greene County’s westernmost grocery store is closing.
Belko Foods, at 209 W. High St., just inside the Waynesburg line, will shut down at the end of business Thursday – shortly after 6 p.m. Underperformance was the reason given.
“We just haven’t been able to make it profitable enough to keep it open,” said Larry Krupko, owner of the chain of seven groceries in Greene County and northern West Virginia.
He said the Waynesburg grocery has been operating since 2000, but “never did come up to (a financial) level we thought was acceptable. We thought it was a good location, and that was one of reasons why we tried to stay with it.”
Krupko added that there are “no present plans” to add stores.
Belko Foods also has locations in Mt. Morris and Jefferson Township, Greene County; and in Blacksville, Hundred, Wellsburg and suburban Morgantown, W.Va.
