Chartiers-Houston Community Library welcomed Holocaust survivor Shulamit Bastacky on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Jan. 27. Bastacky shared her story of being a hidden child, separated from her family in order to survive in Nazi-occupied Poland. Teen volunteer Atharv Bhave approached the library after the Oct. 27 Tree of Life shooting with the idea to hold a weeklong read-a-thon event that was kicked off after Bastacky spoke. The read-a-thon raised funds for families who lost loved ones. A video of the event can be found on the Facebook page, https://tinyurl.com/shulamitsstory. In the photo, Bastacky meets with Atharv, a junior at Canon-McMillan High School, and his mother, Gauri, who is a library volunteer.
