Four days after meriting a prestigious designation, St. Clair Hospital was in the limelight again.

The Mt. Lebanon facility Monday was named among the 100 Top Hospitals in the U.S. for 2019. This was the second year in a row and fourth time in seven years St. Clair has been so honored.

On Thursday, the hospital found it had received a five-star quality rating – the highest mark possible – from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The top 100 award is a byproduct of an annual study by IBM Watson Health to determine top performing hospitals. It is based on overall organizational performance. IBM Watson Health researchers evaluate short-term, acute care, non-federal U.S. Hospitals.

John T. Sullivan, senior vice president and chief medical officer at St. Clair, said in a statement: “This prestigious award affirms St. Clair Hospital’s commitment to providing world-class health care to our patients and is a reflection of how dedicated our board, medical staff, employees and volunteers are to serving the community.”

A number of notable institutions are keeping company with St. Clair on the 2019 list: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles); Mayo Clinic Hospital (Jacksonville); NorthShore University Health System (Evanston); and Miriam Hospital (Providence), the principal teaching affiliate of Brown University.
