West Greene Lions honors Outstanding Students
West Greene Area Lions Club’s Outstanding Students are Kaitlyn Rizor, Cassidy Chambers, Ashley Cumberledge and Brianna Goodwin.
Kaitlyn is the daughter of Jeff and Jenn Rizor of Holbrook. She is a member of Peer Court, Peer Mentoring, Science Club, Ski Club and Young Life, and also serves as sargent of arms for the National Honor Society. In addition to her role as captain of the basketball team, where she’s received the Leading Rebounder Award three years in a row, she is also captain of the softball team, receiving the Golden Glove Award and has made first team all-state the last two seasons. Kaitlyn volunteers at WGHS Red Cross blood drives, Golden Living and coaches little league sports. She has also volunteered at a softball tournament in memory of a former teammate and helped Hundred, W.Va., flood victims in 2017. She plans to attend South Carolina Beaufort to major in nursing with plans of becoming a neonatal nurse.
Cassidy is the daughter of Rich and Lauren Chambers. She is treasurer of the class of 2019 in the Student Government Association. A four-year letterman on the varsity volleyball team, she was voted team captain for the 2018 season. Cassidy is a member of the National Honor Society and the Peer Mentoring Program. She participates in the West Greene Coffee House Showcase and sings the National Anthem for sporting events. She has received an Academic Letter and a Presidential Award. Her volunteer work includes school trips to the City Mission and area nursing facilities, as well as the Greene County Produce to People, Teach-a-Lot seminars and the Greene County Human Services Mental Health Picnic. Cassidy plans to attend Slippery Rock University for exercise science with plans of becoming a physical therapist.
Ashley is the daughter of Jody and Jennifer Cumberledge of Rogersville. She is secretary of the National Honor Society and vice president of her class for three years, and current vice president and past president of the Science Club, and secretary and treasurer of the Calculus Club. Ashley is a mentor in the Peer Monitoring Program. She is co-captain of the cross country and track teams, and received the GCAOA All County Awards for cross country and track. She has been first in her class for two years and second one year, has been awarded the American Citizenship Award two years in a row and volunteers at Rolling Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation, Save-A-Horse Stable and Washington City Mission. Ashley plans to enroll in Gannon University’s 5-year physician assistant program.
Brianna is the daughter of David and Michelle Goodwin of Rutan. She is treasurer of the National Honor Society, secretary of the Class of 2019, and an honor roll student. In addition to being a member of Peer Court, Peer Mentoring and Ski Club, Brianna is captain of the basketball team, a member of softball team and played on the volleyball team in 2015 and 2018. She was selected as the 2018 homecoming queen and received the Citizenship Award and Academic Achievement Award. Her community service includes WGHS Red Cross blood drive, Washington City Mission, Golden Living Nursing Home, and little league basketball and softball programs. Brianna plans to attend West Virginia University for elementary education.
