Waynesburg University will welcome Evan Lutz, founder of Hungry Harvest, to speak in the Rosetta Kormuth DeVito Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center. Admission is free. Lutz started Hungry Harvest in May 2014 as a way to fight food insecurity and put to use the billions of pounds of produce that are wasted in the U.S. each year. He will speak about what inspired him to start Hungry Harvest, as well as the widespread issues of food waste and hunger. Giant Oaks Garden Club will hold its monthly luncheon meeting and program at 11 a.m. April 4 at St. David’s Anglican Church, 905 E. McMurray Road, Venetia. The Parent Group – Southwestern Local Task Force I monthly meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon April 4 at The Intermediate Unit 1, One Intermediate Unit Drive, Coal Center. The Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club will hold its annual Rose’s Tea Party at 6 p.m. April 4 in Fellowship Hall of the Carmichaels Methodist Church. Entertainment will be provided by “The Musical Mikes,” a choral group from the Carmichaels Elementary Center. Bring a guest; new members welcome.
A community dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 4 at Liberty United Methodist Church, 1330 Banetown Road, Washington. The menu will include creamed chicken and biscuit, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw or fruit, dessert and beverage. The Daughters of Grace Choir will present Beautiful Savior: Celebrating the Light and Love of Christ, a program of songs, at 7 p.m. April 5 at Greene Valley Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels. The 2019 State Conference of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology, hosted by the Mon-Yough Chapter 3, will be held April 5-7, at the Ramada by Wyndham, 700 West Main Street, Uniontown. Speakers will discuss various subjects and there will be a book room where archaeology and history books may be purchased. Preregistration is available for $30 for adults and $20 for students, or register at the door for $35. The banquet Saturday evening is $34 per person. The Washington County Cattlemen’s Association annual Apple Pie Contest & Auction will be held April 6. The event will be in conjunction with the Washington County Ag Days at The Washington County Fairgrounds & Expo Center. Pies will be accepted from noon to 2 p.m. at the W.C.C.A Booth in Hall 1. Judging will take place at 2. The auction will begin at 6:30 at the main staging area in Hall 1. There will be a senior and junior division. Awards will be given to the top three pies in each division and a prettiest pie will be selected from each division. Prizes include: 1st Place – $50, 2nd Place – $25, 3rd Place – $15 and Prettiest Pie – $20. Pies will be judged based on taste, appearance, texture, filling and crust. Charleroi Area School District Education Foundation’s 6th Annual Blast From The Past will be held April 12 at the Charleroi Area School District Auditorium. Johnny Angel & the Halos will perform along with special guests The Bloomfield Boyz, who will open the show. The event begins at 5 p.m. with food, a D.J. and car show. Crossroads Ministries, Finleyville, will hold a Wonka Egg Hunt April 13, featuring 10,000 eggs stuffed with candy. There will also be grand prizes for those who find the “golden ticket” eggs, and a photo station for pictures with Wonka characters. Scheduled times include: toddlers and preschoolers, 2 p.m.; kindergarten through grade 2, 3 p.m.; third- and fourth-graders, 4 p.m. Tickets are free, but registration is required. Volunteers are needed for Peters Township Parks & Recreation’s Bunny Hop and Egg Scramble April 13 in Peterswood Park. The Bunny Hop is from 10 a.m. to noon for children age 9 and younger (must be accompanied by an adult). There will be games, crafts, entertainment and more. Cost is $5 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. The Egg Scramble will take place at 1 p.m. for children age 2 and under, 1:15 p.m. for children ages 3-5, and 1:30 p.m. for children ages 6-9. Bring your own bag or basket. Preregistration is required online at www.peterstownship.com or at the Recreation Center. Cost for either event is $5 for residents, $8 for nonresidents. Heritage Public Library will hold Breakfast with the Bunny from 9 to 11 a.m. April 13 at Hickory Fire Hall located on Main Street. There will be crafts, activities and coloring for kids. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, basket raffle and Bunny Gift Shop for kids. Cost is $5 per person; children ages 2 and under are free.
