Harmony Presbyterian Church, 144 Rush Road, Wind Ridge, will hold a benefit spaghetti dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, to develop funds for the Richard Breeding Scholarship Fund and award a yearly $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from West Greene High School who plans to enter one of the branches of the military. Spaghetti, salad, roll, dessert and water, tea or coffee will be available for a donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children. Take-out will be available. There also will be a Chinese auction. A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held from noon to 6 p.m. May 4 at Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall, 106 Main St., Hickory, to assist with medical expenses for the family of Ernie Myers, who died Feb. 28 after a long battle with intestinal obstructions and a subsequent transplant. A Chinese auction and bake sale will be held, along with 50/50 drawings. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, and will be available at the door.
Emmanuel U.P. Church, 480 Route 519, Eighty Four, will host a community picnic and movie night beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4. Everyone is invited for food, activities and kids games, including a bounce house. At 8 p.m., there will be an outdoor movie showing. Admission is free. For more information, call 724-222-7488.
Bethel AME Church, 700 W. Main St., Monongahela, is planning a spiritual Lay Witness event at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4. The Lay Organization will have a brunch beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a worship service at noon. The morning worship speaker will be Twyla Glasgow of Bethel AME Church in Tarentum.
“Music Through the Seasons” is the title of a free concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, to be presented by the combined choirs of the Bethel and Canonsburg Presbyterian churches. The concert will be at Bethel Presbyterian, 2999 Bethel Church Road, where cookies and drinks will be served in the fellowship hall after the program. A special dinner for choir members will precede the concert.

The Washington Branch of the NAACP will hold its 59th Annual Human Rights Award Banquet on Friday, May 3, at DoubleTree by Hilton, Meadowlands. Bakari Sellers, CNN political commentator will be the keynote speaker. Human Rights Award recipient is Geraldine M. Jones, president of California University of Pennsylvania. Cumberland Township will hold clean-up days from 7 am. to 3 p.m. May 4 and 5 at the municipal building. No tires, refrigerants, household garbage, concrete, paints or hazardous materials will be accepted. Large appliances, sofas, mattresses and scrap metal will be accepted. North Bethlehem Township Supervisors will sponsor clean up days for North Bethlehem Township residents only from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, May 4-12. A container will be located on township property at the junction of Route 917 and Ontario Road. No oil, oil rags, oil filters, tires, hazardous waste, industrial waste, chemical products, solvents, fluorescent tube light bulbs, appliances with Freon, liquid paints or thinners, herbicides and pesticides, radioactive materials, propane tanks, yard waste, trees, brush, shrubs or microwaves will be accepted.
Washington County History & Landmarks is sponsoring a Wood Workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the John White House at Washington County Fairgrounds. Guest presenter is Regis Will, an oft-time instructor for Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation. Attendees are asked to bring small projects or photos with them for analysis. The workshop is free to paid H&L members and available to the public for a $10 fee, payable at the door.
