Partnering with Mon Valley Academy for the Arts, Power of Music is returning for a special one-day event in Brownsville.

“Power of Music – Live” will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Cast Iron Amphitheater in Snowdon Square. The free show will feature eight acts representing a variety of genres and hometown favorites.

The lineup includes Mon Valley Rockers, Shannon & the Merger, Mon Valley Push, London Station, Mark & the Wild Things, the Classics, The Allies and Brownsville native Belinda Nicholas.

“We welcome the community to bring a chair and enjoy the day,” said Annette Buffer, POM co-founder.

A release announced Sage Sneith, Bentworth High School junior, will sing the national anthem. There will be a handicapped parking area, drop-off spot, tents and more than 25 vendors that include will food trucks. Proceeds benefit MVAA’s arts and music initiatives.

American Legion Resource Center, adjacent to Snowdon Square, will also host a free Steelers watch party in its community room.

POM committee had voted to disband earlier this year due to a lack of volunteers. The committee consisted primarily of retirees who performed fundraising and organized up to 15 concerts annually since 2013.

“If we had more support, we would be back, and we might have found it. I’m guardedly optimistic,” said Buffer, explaining, “I recently became a member of the board of directors for the Mon Valley Academy of the Arts. It’s opened opportunities for us we didn’t have before.”

Mark A. Smith, founder of Charleroi-based MVAA, said in the release that MVAA is looking to expand into Fayette County.

He commented, “We chose POM as our partner because it is well established and has a solid track record with musicians and communities on its side of the Monongahela River.”
