WZUM 88.1 FM from Bethany, W.Va., has had its signal restored to full power after the replacement of an aging transmitter antenna and transmission line.
It will bring the maximum licensed signal back to Washington, parts of the South Hills and North Hills and parts of West Virginia’s western panhandle.
In November 2021, the antenna and transmission system for 88.1 FM experienced a major failure that dramatically reduced power for that signal. According to Chuck Leavens, the president and CEO of Pittsburgh Public Media, the new antenna and transmission line “is a significant improvement over the system that was first installed in 1985. We hope listeners will enjoy these improvements for many years to come.”
Donations to help cover the cost of the equipment and repairs can be made at www.wzum.org.
The Pittsburgh Jazz Channel also broadcasts on 1550 on the AM dial and at 101.1 FM in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area. It can also be heard online.
