Jefferson United Methodist Church, at 190 Washington St. in Jefferson, will host a jazz in the sanctuary event with Curtis Johnson Oct. 13. Cajun food, including jambalaya, gumbo, cornbread, sweet potatoes and greens, will be served in the community center from 4-6 p.m., with the event running 6-8 p.m. Food will be sponsored by Team Bates Ministries. Johnson is a retired associate jazz professor at WVU and founder of Creative Music Solutions, an organization that sponsors numerous tours to Europe and with various performing groups. Johnson will perform with local musicians. Tickets are $10 at the door. A love offering will be collected for the band.

The Monongahela Veterans Council will meet at VFW 1409 – Black Diamond, 793 E. Main St., Monongahela, on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. The group will discuss the upcoming events and activities this year. All interested parties are welcome to attend.
