The United Way of Washington County invites area students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors to participate in the Student Ambassadors Program.

The purpose of the Student Ambassadors Program is to offer students opportunities to express their ability of leadership, passion, and service by creating projects or by volunteering at one of our nonprofit partners that will impact their community.

To participate students must attend any of the high schools in the agency’s service area, which includes Avella, Bentworth, Burgettstown, Canon-McMillan, Chartiers-Houston, Fort Cherry, McGuffey, Peters Township, Trinity and Washington. Or, a student can be nominated by one of the United Way’s 23 nonprofit partners.

Students are asked to consider producing a project that demonstrates real community impact that exemplifies the United Way’s mission statement to unite people, resources, and organizations to improve lives in Washington County. The project must be tied back to the United Way’s vision of a community where everyone achieves their human potential through education, financial stability, and healthy lives.

Questions may be directed to office@unitedwaywashco.org.

The deadline to submit the initial application is Nov. 17, with the project to be completed by Jan. 26.

Participants will become eligible to be nominated for the annual M. Kathleen Ramsey Student Volunteer of the Year Award, which includes a $500 scholarship, to be presented at the annual campaign celebration in May. The United Way also will consider for the award students who are currently volunteering at one of the agency’s nonprofit partner organizations listed on its website who are nominated by a staff member.

Last year, Canon-McMillan junior Noelle Klasnick was named the Student Volunteer of the Year. She collected new and gently used gloves, mittens, hats, socks and coats and gave them to the United Way of Washington County to distribute to organizations serving those in need.
